Usage & Technical Info

Purpose
For various reasons, it is useful to have Apache look at a number of different filenames to locate a DirectoryIndex. The default until now has been to use index.html. Now you can have a selection of filenames for Apache to choose from.

Old behavior
NCSA httpd defaulted to looking for index.html or an alternative filename specified in srm.conf with the DirectoryIndex setting.

New behavior
DirectoryIndex in srm.conf can now be a space delimited list of filenames.

example (in srm.conf)

DirectoryIndex blocked.html index.html welcome.html

Note: the ordering of the filenames is relevant. In the example above, blocked.html could be used by web-masters to intercept requests for a particular directory index, without the need to touch index.html.
