Creating this sub-site, we mean to attract the attention of interested
scholars and experts in the field to the issues of super-regional
relevance, namely, those shaped geographically by border territories
of Russia, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan. One may call this inter-sate
entity as Greater Altai, due obvious historical, cultural, geographical
similarities and intersections, but this is not sole approach and
terming, which, in its side, follows by different considerations
with regard of this area geopolitics, etc. Some authors, referring
to it, use such construct label as Altai Mountain region, which
appears as not completely adequate, because the most part of Russian
Altai region (not Altai Republic) is actually steppe. But there
are no terminology confusions/differences at the bottom, - the core/scope
of the problem is the prospects of huge inter-state border area,
crucial for the future of the entire Asia.
Below we publish electronic version of the paper of Chinese research
tandem - Liu Janfu and Gu Jiayu, that was presented at recent conference
in Altai (PRC). By doing this, we expect to stimulate theoretical/applied
discussions, focussed on the main trends and events in the heart
of Greater Central Asia.
